Recreation Overview
Throughout the year, the City of Cleveland Heights offers a variety of programs for residents of all ages and interests, ranging from sports to the arts. Preschoolers can enjoy playful movement classes, and school-aged children can participate in summer camp, youth soccer, flag football, basketball, baseball, softball and ice hockey sports leagues. Week-long developmental camps are also offered. Adults can stay in shape with at the fitness center in the Community Center or take fitness classes. Seniors can choose from a wealth of opportunities, ranging from leisure or fitness to workshops and field trips. In addition, at the Senior Computer Center, senior residents can learn computer basics as well as explore the Internet.
During the summer, tots can cool off in wading pools at 2 parks; and families can swim at our large outdoor pool. Another great option for staying cool in the summer (as well as a great work-out all year long) is the Olympic-sized, year-round North ice rink at the Cleveland Heights Community Center, located at One Monticello Boulevard at Mayfield Road.
During the winter, in addition to programs and activities at the Community Center, a wonderful sledding hill is located at Taylor and Superior Roads.
In addition, Cleveland Heights residents don't have to travel far to see top-notch entertainment at their own summer arts park! The municipally-owned and -operated Cain Park has two covered, open-air theaters. And the annual Cain Park Arts Festival in July is one of the top-rated outdoor arts festivals in the country. (See Cain Park for more information.)
A Parks and Recreation brochure detailing programs, activities, classes and special events is sent to residents twice a year. To receive a complimentary copy of our latest brochure, call (216) 691-7373, or click here.
In addition to municipal parks and facilities, Cleveland Heights is home to Bally's Total Fitness.
Cleveland Heights residents also have the advantage of being in close proximity to The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, a unique, year-round environmental education and preservation oasis (located in the cities of Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights). In addition to its six natural habitats (lake, stream, field, marsh, ravine and forest), the Nature Center facilities include indoor and outdoor classrooms, a gift shop and a bird observation center. To reach The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, (mailing address: 2600 South Park Boulevard, Cleveland, Ohio 44122), call 216-321-5935; e-mail: naturecenter@shakerlakes.org; or visit them at www.shakerlakes.org.
